Textiles of this caliber and design from the 1600s were typically produced for ecclesiastical purposes (such as altar frontals) or as luxury wall hangings and table runners for high-status noble estates

and is clearly influenced by earlier Indian chintzes

Repeating design of large passion flowers with small hydrangea blossoms. The detail in this print is extraordinary! Please look at close up photographs. Colours are pale yellow and cream on a ground with shades of a beautiful aubergine mauve in the blossoms and background. Photos are a good representation of actual color and condition. Measurements: 146 x 84. 5cm
